He raced Egyptiancottonduvet the Finishplatformbed mini stock division and won twelve races in his first three seasons. Throughout all this transition, Scotts father, Russell Riggs was by his side the whole time. Russell goes to every race and has not missed one as of yet. Riggs counts his father as an equation while he is on the track or off the track and looks toward him as a mentor.
In 1990, Scott competed in the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division and was voted most improved driver at Orange County Speedway in 1992. He went on to compete in the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car again in 1994 and managed to be named the track champion at the Southern National Speedway with 19 wins.
After playing the smaller races for the next couple of years, Scott Riggs made his debut in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1999 at the Indianapolis Raceway Park. He went on to compete at Richmond International Raceway and Martinsville Speedway where he finished 23rd and had seven top-tens respectively. In the years 2000 until 2003, Riggs managed to compete in 17 out of 24 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, four NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division events with one win and two poles, competed full time in the Busch Series in Finishwinestorage 2002 and 2003 with two winnings in both years and top 10 finishes. However, in the same year (2006), Riggs was not able to run the Daytona 500 because of a mechanical error and the lack of owner points from the pervious season held him back as well. He managed to get the 18th spot in the 2006 NEXTEL Cup, which so far has been his highest ranking there and he came in 4th place during the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Scott is very involved with his family and brings them wherever he goes. He enjoys eating his father's barbecued chicken and when he is not busy on the track, he takes his family for go karting activities. Although he does not race professionally on the motocross tracks, he still likes to get on his bike once in awhile to keep in touch with his motocross roots. Riggs relates his experience in staying at a motel in 1998 during an All-Pro race as one of his worst hotel experiences with cigarette burns littering the comforter and the sheets of the bed. Like a lot of young NASCAR racers, Riggs is a prankster however, that does not mean he does not have his head in the game.
